A major modernisation and reconstruction of a landmark West End building to provide 156 residential units

The Victorian tenement building in the heart of Convent Garden was modernised with a rolling conversion scheme with tenants in situ to provide 156 flats and maisonettes. The refurbishment of the imposing 1884 residence took 6 years and required close liaison with residents, shopkeepers at ground floor level and the contractors to minimise disturbance.

A new lift and stair towers were added, flats were re-planned and enlarged, and landscaped courtyards were created at the back. The new additions were carefully designed to complement the distinctive character of the historic building. The works were completed in four phases with a contract sum of £7.5 million.
