Darbishire Place | Whitechapel

Darbishire Place is located on John Fisher Street in Whitechapel, London. Built for the Peabody Trust on an empty site within Henry Darbishire’s 1870 Peabody Estate, the new building houses 13 families around a newly created courtyard garden. The building is a reinforced concrete frame with brick cladding with large sharp definition pre-cast feature surrounds to balconies and windows. The new structure compliments it’s Victorian neighbours without imitating them. Designed by Niall McLaughlin Architects, the project won the RIBA National Award 2015, RIBA London Award 2015 and was short-listed for the 2015 RIBA Stirling Prize.
