Burbage House | Hackney

Burbage House owes its name to James Burbage, builder of the Shoreditch Theatre which stood close to where Burbage House now stands. The building is located on the corner of Poole Street and Avebury Street overlooking the green open space of Shoreditch Park and close to the Regent’s Canal. Built by Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association (ISHA), the 27 unit, £3m development, has breathed new life into a formerly dowdy site. The development involved the demolition of one of ISHA’s oldest blocks (which could not meet decent homes standards) and the design and build of a larger, more environmentally friendly 7-storey block. To achieve a minimum of Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, the development includes a range of sustainable and energy saving technologies including photovoltaic panels which provide electricity, green roofs to support bio-diversity and high quality insulation to improve thermal performance and reduce fuel bills.
