Listed 16th Century Building | Henley-on-Thames

A condition survey had revealed signs of significant movement to the timber frame of this Grade II listed 16th Century building on Hart Street in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. We were asked by the freeholder and the leaseholder Café Uno (the building is now occupied by Braserie Chez Gerard) to assess the implication for the structures and what remedial works could take place.

A detailed visual and measured appraisal was undertaken which enabled the form of the structure to be determined, and hence the principal load paths. It was concluded that the cause of movement was located in the basement where timber posts had begun to rot where in contact with the damp ground – the building is located 500ft from the River Thames. Recommendations were given for further investigation and remedial works to vertical and suspended structure.
