Ellis & Moore at the cutting edge of Solar design
Led by partner Lachlan McDonald, Ellis & Moore is working on the innovative design for DuneZED - Bill Dunster's revloutionary solar energy farm and holiday village on the site of an old power station in Barnstaple, Devon.
The zero energy development (ZED) would see acres of solar panels atop 30ft high canopies, sheltering zero carbon holiday accommodation, landscaped facilities plus a photovoltaic solar panel factory, visitor centre and showroom. Now a public consultation has been launched at www.dunezed.com to find out what local people think and hear their views and ideas before applying for planning permission in March.

Ellis & Moore Annual Staff Trip
Every year Ellis & Moorian staff pack up their bags and head off for a weekend in the sun (or more accurately rain!) This year was no exception as we headed to the westernmost city in Europe, the Portuguese capital Lisbon. Our staff trips blend a mix of cultural, educational and social activities. Being rich in architecture from the Romanesque to the Post-Modern, we took in as much as the city had to offer - commenting on the structural integrity of each building as we went! Being engineers we couldn't pass up the opportunity to go in the Santa Justa Lift - a wonder of Victorian engineering. The 45 metre tall tower decorated in the neo-gothic style holds an elevator which connects the lower streets of Baixa to the higher streets above.
Our Lisbon trip was a welcome distraction from the trying economic environment we find ourselves operating. As well as taking the sites and sounds of the city, the trip is an important staff bonding exercise - with newer members of staff getting to know their colleagues outside the office environment.
