History
Ellis & Moore Consulting Engineers was formed in 1977 initially to undertake structural designs on projects in the Middle East. The practice grew from strength to strength and expanded steadily to its current complement of approximately 30 members of staff.
In the 1980’s the practice undertook commissions in the UK in both the new build and refurbishment market. The work involved a wide range of structures including housing, hospitals, schools and commercial developments. We also began to develop an interest in the use of lime in both refurbishment and new build projects. The practice also became involved in timber frame self build construction on a small scale.
In the 1990’s the practice was commissioned to undertake work on large estate regeneration projects which involved the design of roads and drains. A group was formed in the office to undertake this work. Many of the estates consisted of tower blocks and experience was gained in the structural assessment and repair of tower blocks including overcladding techniques.
In the late 1990’s two projects became key to the future development of the practice: Gainsborough Studios for Lincoln Holdings and BedZED on behalf of the Peabody Trust. BedZED proved to be the first in a series of sustainable developments and is considered a pioneering project.
Currently the practice is looking at a number of innovative construction methods including factory construction and various combinations of structures to achieve improved structural performance and durability.
Today the practice continues to build on the reputation on quality, integrity and innovation working on a number of high-profile and pioneering projects. Our work has been recognised on a number of occasions. Recent awards and acknowledgments include:
